Patterson Cottage
Beals, Maine
The Finnish heater for the house. It was built in 2001 using a kit from by Alby Bardon. In mild cold weather it heats the house for an entire day after one burn of wood because it retains the heat and releases it slowly.
The heater has a bread oven in which Before its finish lime plaster was added John cooked Texas style beef brisket and baked beans.
Initial stonework on the chimney done by Lissa and Bob in June 2003. The stones are from the beech near the house. Rose collected quite a bunch of symmetrical round stones and we added quite a lot more. The heater's brick is still unplastered.
The heater after its scratch coat of lime plaster in October 2003. Rocks all around for use on the chimney.
The heater, completed: concrete slabs, local rock faced chimney and white line plaster finish (same as walls of the house).
